SANTA FE COUNTY “SHOWS” OFF
8/17/04: As the dog days of summer give way to fall Santa Fe County will be the site for a four-legged show and two annual art studio tours in September.
On September 11th and 12th the Sangre de Cristo All Breed Dog Show will be held at the Santa Fe Horse Park from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The AKC sanctioned show will feature dogs from throughout the country competing for Best in Show and group prizes. The club expects dogs competing this weekend that have appeared at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. There will also be a variety of health clinics for dogs held over the weekend as well as dog related items for sale. Admission is free and food vendors will be available. The Horse Park is on County Road 56/Airport Road 2 miles west of the intersection of NM 599 and Airport Road.
The fall season of studio tours in northern New Mexico kicks off the weekend of September 18th and 19th with the 11th Annual Pojoaque River Art Tour. It consists of over 25 artists showing at 18 studios along County Road 84 through Pojoaque Jacona Jaconita & El Rancho with paintings monotypes Sumi-e glass sculpture furniture ironwork weaving jewelry pottery & retablos. Maps for the tour are available at the Pojoaque Pueblo Visitors Center and El Rancho Community Center. County Road 84 is approximately 17 miles north of Santa Fe. It is just west of the interchange of US 285 N/US 84 N and NM 502 W in Pojoaque.
The 6th Annual Cerrillos & Madrid Studio Tour will take place on September 25th and 26th and October 2nd and 3rd . A dozen artists will be featured in this tour along the Turquoise Trail (State Road 14). A portion of the proceeds from sales at the tour will benefit Ortiz Mountain Educational Preserve which includes the Santa Fe Botanical Garden. A new addition this year will be performances and performance art held on the Friday evenings preceding the weekend tours (9/24 and 10/1) at Picture Rock Studio (on State Road 14 halfway between Cerrillos and Madrid). NM 14 is south of Santa Fe accessible from the 276B off ramp of Interstate 25.
