Santa Fe County Has History, Art and Horse Events

4/21/04: Santa Fe County has a wide range of special events taking place during May.

The Civil War comes alive on Saturday and Sunday May 1 and 2 at El Rancho de las Golondrinas Living History Museum. It is the annual reenactment of the westernmost battles during the War Between the States! Activities are scheduled both days between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and include soldiers dressed in period costume and replica cannons. Food and drinks are available for purchase This event is co-sponsored by the New Mexico Civil War Commemorative Congress. To reach the ranch leave I-25 at exit 271 (La Cienega) head north on County Road 50F/Entrada La Cienega for one mile then turn left on Camino Capilla Vieja.

The 13th Eldorado Open Studio Art Tour takes place from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday May 15-16. This is the largest studio tour in northern New Mexico with at least 90 artists participating. A preview gallery and tour Maps are available at the Eldorado Fire Station which is located at 801 Avenida Vista Grande approximately one mile off US 285 South.

On Saturday May 30 the Santa Fe Horse Park is the site of the Grand Prix de Santa Fe. This event is New Mexico’s first $25 000 Grand Prix Show Jumping event including a $7 000 Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic and a $5 000 Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper Classic. The Horse Park is on County Road 56/Airport Road 2 miles west of the intersection of NM 599 and Airport Road.
