Sixteen miles northeast of Santa Fe on Highway 475 and standing 12,053 feet high is the Santa Fe ski area. Known for its scenic beauty and great skiing, Ski Santa Fe caters to all ages and skill levels, and its seven lifts make lift lines virtually non-existent. From September to mid-October, visitors can enjoy the vibrant colors of the changing aspens while riding on the scenic chairlift. During the summer months hikers, backpackers and mountain bikers can take one of the many trails into the Santa Fe National Forest. For winter entertainment, Ski Santa Fe is open from Thanksgiving until Easter, with an average snowfall of 225 inches per year.
